The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees and Tulsa Oilers have completed a five player deal involving several high profile players and a pair of All-Star defensemen. Rio Grande Valley sends All-Star rearguard Kurtis Dulle, defenseman Jamie Lovell and left winger Bill Newson, a member of the Killer Bees since their inception in 2003, to Tulsa in exchange for gifted offensive left winger David Masse and All-Star defenseman Matt Medley, a former Killer Bee.
All five players are on the move and expected to be in uniform for their respective new clubs next games. Dulle and Medley, both named to the 2007 CHL All-Star lineups in late December, will still represent their original conference, with Dulle still suiting up for the Southern Conference and Medley for the Northern Conference.
Paul Fixter, Rio Grande Valley Coach
This is a trade we think will immediately provide some spark in our lineup. David Masse is a highly skilled player who the fans will enjoy watching. Matt Medley is an All-Star defenseman who is solid in his own end and can also produce points. We expect they will make an immediate impact with us.
Grant Buckborough, Rio Grande Valley General Manager
Bill Newson was arguably the face of this franchise for nearly four full seasons. We appreciate his efforts both on and off the ice. He was truly an ambassador for hockey in South Texas and we, along with the community, commend his efforts over the years. We wish him well in Tulsa.
Butch Kaebel, Tulsa Coach
We think this trade is definitely going to help our hockey team. Dulle is an all-star this season, and Newson is a veteran player whos a two time all-star. Hes been a team MVP, a leading goal scorer, and above all that, he has a work ethic second to none. Jamie Lovell is a steady hard working defenseman who prides himself in being in great shape, and will give us quality depth on the blueline.
