The Laredo Bucks will make their fifth straight appearance in the Southern Conference following a 5-4 home win Sunday over the Corpus Christi Rayz. 2005-2006 playoff MVP Jeff Bes paced the attack with a pair of goals, while left winger Neil Clark continues to enjoy a productive post-season with a goal and two assists. The Bucks will take on the winner of Game 7 between the New Mexico Scorpions and Arizona Sundogs scheduled for Tuesday at the Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho.
Game 5 Box Score: Corpus Christi 4 @ Laredo 5
Laredo Wins Series 4-1
Justin Quenneville got the Rayz on the board just 4:34 into Game 5 with his fourth goal of the series, but the Bucks would score the next four, with Clark, Bes, James Hiebert and Paul Elliott finding the back of the net. Scores by Derrick McIver and Jason Baird brought the Rayz back within a goal heading to the third. The eventual game winner was scored by Bes (his 9th of the playoffs) off a two on one break, with Clark feathering a nifty pass that Bes buried. Geno Parrish brought the Rayz again with one at the 17:58 mark with goaltender Ron Vogel pulled for an extra attacker, and had several chances to tie it. The best came off the stick of McIver, robbed by Reiter in close in the waning seconds. The key to the series ultimately was a pair of overtime games, both won by the Bucks, with three of the Rayz four losses coming by a single goal.
