COLLEGE STATION, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League came from behind to beat the Austin Ice Bats 3-2 in a shootout Friday night at the Artic Wolf Ice Center. The win gave the Bucks a 2-1 pre-season record.
All-Star Chris Korchinski scored the game-winning goal for Laredo in the sudden death shootout. Korchinski was the first Bucks shooter in sudden death to attempt a shot.
Austins Kurtis Kisio scored the only goal for Austin in the shootout. He was the first shooter to attempt a shot. Bucks forward Rane Carnegie was the first Buck to shoot, and rocketed a goal through. The next four Bucks missed, forcing Korchinskis game-winning shot.
For the second straight night the Bucks fell behind the Bats (1-1 pre-season), this time 2-0. At the 9:05 mark of the first period Austins Darryl McArthur scored to give the Bats a 1-0 lead. Austins lead stayed that way until 3:48 of the second period when John Ronan scored to increase Austins lead to 2-0.
Then the Bucks came back.
James Hiebert put the Bucks on the board at 3:59 in the third, with Martin Groma and rookie Matt Summers picking up the assists for Laredo. The score stayed 2-1 until 17:25 of the third when rookie forward Brent MacSween tied the game at 2. It was MacSweens fifth goal in three pre-season games. Fellow rookies Andrew Dejardins and Tyler Harder picked up the assists for the Bucks.
Kevin Beech started in net for the Bucks and was taken out midway through the second period, with third-year pro Dustin Traylen making his first appearance in a Laredo uniform and picking up the win. When stats become available they can be found at www.pointstreak.com.
