Eagles Soar over Mudbugs for Third Straight Win
Marco Emond had a busy night in net for the Colorado Eagles on Saturday as he turned away 48 of 50 shots en route to a 5-2 victory over the streaking Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs. The defeat was the first loss in regulation for the ‘Bugs since November 17th (6-0-2 over their point streak).
The Eagles used a string second period with Ed McGrane scoring a pair of goals and Greg Pankewicz adding his ninth of the season. Defensemen Aaron Schneekloth and Paul Esdale also scored for the Eagles who improve to 8-2-1 over their last 11 games.
The Mudbugs rattled off 24 shots on net in the final period but Emond stood on his head turning away everything he faced in the period. The win moves Emond to 6-2-0 on the season. John DeCaro made 23 saves and after last night’s shootout loss in Rocky Mountain, has dropped consecutive games for the first time since October.

The RiverKings used 28 saves from Sebastien Centomo and a hat trick from Aaron Davis to gain the victory in their 1000th regular season game. Ryan Kindret and Ryan Campbell also scored for the RiverKings as they pull to within four points of the Hounds for first place in the Northeast Division.
New Mexico 1 @ Odessa 3
Mario Joly scored the game winning power play goal in the third period as the Jackalopes extend their point streak to five games (3-0-2) and in the process lay claim to first place in the Southwest Division over Arizona. Rookie goaltender Alexandre Vincent made 29 saves earning the victory.
Tulsa 3 @ Oklahoma City 4
The Blazers improved to 10-10-1 on the season as four different players scored goals with Marc Connors netting the game winner in the third period. Jason Wolfe made 35 saves winning his seventh game of the season. Jeff Christian had two goals and an assist in the loss for Tulsa.
Rio Grande Valley 2 @ Austin 5
The Ice Bats jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second period and held on for the victory. Jamie Thompson had a goal and two assists and Miguel Beaudry made 33 saves earning the victory. Austin is 3-2-1 in their last six games, while the Killer Bees fall to 1-4-1 in their last six.
Amarillo 7 @ Texas 4
The Gorillas won their first road game of the season in convincing fashion. Matt Miller had a hat trick for Amarillo including a shorthanded goal and Nate Fornatero had four assists. The loss for the Brahmas put an end to their four-game win streak.
Wichita 2 @ Rocky Mountain 5
Brent Cullaton had two goals and two assists and Trevor Weisgerber and Tyler Butler had a goal and two assists as the Rage won their third straight game and improved to 15-2-2 on the season. The loss for Wichita is their eighth straight on the road to start the season.
Laredo 2 @ Corpus Christi 4
The Rayz defeated the Southern Conference’s best team on Saturday night for the second consecutive meeting. Jason Tapp made 31 saves and four different goal scorers found the back of the net including newcomer Jay Latulippe who was acquired from Odessa earlier in the week
