Cooper Keeps Bugs Streaking to 13th Straight Win

'Bugs Crush Bucks, Set Team Record Win Streak

LAREDO, TX – The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs set a new franchise record with their 13th consecutive victory Saturday night, a dominating 6-2 victory over the Laredo Bucks.

Bossier-Shreveport came out on fire in the contest, scoring four goals and chasing Bucks goaltender Kevin Beech from the net in the game’s first 13:44.  Jason Basile started the scoring at the 2:30 mark on a slapshot from the point for his first goal of the season.  Minutes later, Justin Aikins finished a nice centering pass from Kevin Cooper to make it 2-0.  Tyrel Lucas got into the act at 8:30, making it 3-0 on his 13th goal of the season.  After James Hiebert’s shorthanded breakaway goal got the Bucks on the board, Chris Brassard answered with a 5-on-3 powerplay goal just over a minute later to make it 4-1 ‘Bugs after the first period.

In the second period, the game was delayed for a few moments due to some technical problems in the Laredo Entertainment Center , but not before Cooper had scored again to make it 5-1 Bossier-Shreveport.  The end of the period was marred by penalties, with three fights in the final seven minutes.  Laredo forward Alex Penner was given a match penalty for intent to injure after a takedown of Mudbugs defenseman Matt York.

In the third period, Bossier-Shreveport added to the lead again after Elias Godoy got a rebound just past Bucks goalie John Ceci to make it 6-1 Mudbugs.  Jeff Bes’ late powerplay goal provided the final score of 6-2 Bossier-Shreveport.

Ken Carroll won in goal for the tenth straight time, making 23 saves, while the Mudbugs went 2 for 7 on the powerplay, scoring multiple powerplay goals for the fourth game in a row.  Laredo finished 1 for 7 on the powerplay.

Bossier-Shreveport’s 13th straight wins are now a new franchise record, and just two off the CHL record of 15 set by last year’s Colorado Eagles.

The Mudbugs will now have nearly a full week off, with the CHL All-star game being played on Wednesday in Broomfield, Colorado .  John DeCaro and Daniel Pegoraro will represent the Mudbugs in the game, suiting up for the Northern Conference.  The 2008 CHL All-star game will be broadcast live on the internet through the CHL Network.  After that, Bossier-Shreveport will be back at it on its seven-game road trip.  A set of three games in three days against the Youngstown SteelHounds is on tap for next Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
