Colorado-Youngstown Game Two Box Score
Windsor, CO – The Colorado Eagles took a commanding 2-0 lead in their best-of-seven conference semifinals series with the Youngstown SteelHounds thanks to a 5-0 all-around team effort on Saturday night at the Budweiser Events Center. Sebastien Laplante made 31 saves earning the shutout.
The Eagles watched the SteelHounds put a ton of pressure on in the early going leading on the shot board 19-4 at one point but Laplante was outstanding holding Youngstown at bay. It was the fifth shot of the game that turned things around as Erik Adams scored a power play goal which would prove to be the eventual game winner at 6:35 of the second period. Seth Leonard would score on the power play and Greg Pankewicz scored even strength before the end of the second period putting the game on ice.
In the third period, Les Borsheim scored in the final frame for the second consecutive game and Ed McGrane added the fifth goal scoring into an empty-net. Youngstown outshot the Eagles 31-26 in the game but Andy Franck struggled for the second consecutive game stopping just 21 of 25 shots.
The Colorado power play was sharp connecting three times in seven chances. Youngstown went 0 for 9.
The series heads east with game three set for Tuesday night in Youngstown at the Chevrolet Centre. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05 PM (EST).
Notebook: The Eagles have killed 19 of 21 SteelHounds power plays in the series…Joel Irving led both teams with five shots on goal…Ed McGrane and Les Borsheim each had a goal and an assist and Brad Williamson had a pair of assists…Colorado is 11-0 all-time at home versus the Hounds.
