ADAM SMYTH SIGNS WITH RIVERKINGS, REJOINS KAMINSKI
 
(Southaven, Mississippi) -- Returning to the Central Hockey League for another season with the same coach, but in a different uniform, will be forward Adam Smyth, who has signed to play for the Mississippi RiverKings. The 6-foot-1, 225 pound right winger from Wiarton, Ontario, Canada, will be starting his sixth professional season and second in the CHL, when he joins the RiverKings at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven.

Under new RiverKings’ Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin Kaminski at Youngstown last year, Smyth scored seven goals and five assists for 12 points in 24 games before being injured in December. Smyth also collected 121 penalty minutes with the SteelHounds, which had him fifth on the team roster for PIMs.

Four of his seven goals last season came on the power play and his .139 shooting percentage put him second on the SteelHounds’ roster. Smyth had a seven game point streak between October 28th (a 2-1 win at Texas) and November 10th (a 3-2 win at Laredo), where he scored four goals and earned three assists.
 
Smyth’s most productive professional season came in the United Hockey League during the 2006-07 campaign, when he scored 14 goals and totaled 28 points on a Muskegon Fury team that won the divisional title. Five of his 14 goals were power play tallies for a team that reached the playoff semi-finals before losing to Kalamazoo in seven games.
 
Adam also led the Fury in penalty minutes with 236 PIMs, putting him third in the UHL in that category. He was named Muskegon’s “Best Checker” in the team’s post-season awards that year.
 
The other extensive professional action Adam has had came in the ECHL with the Gwinnett Gladiators, where he played 113 games over two seasons (2004-05 and 2005-06). Smyth had 14 goals and scored 36 points to go with 503 penalty minutes.
 
Smyth has also played five games in two stints with the Chicago Wolves of the AHL and played in the UHL with Port Huron. He played four seasons of Canadian major junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League with the Ottawa 67’s and the Owen Sound Attack.
 
Kaminski expects Smyth’s tangible and intangible assets to be valuable in the RiverKings’ pursuit of the CHL championship this season. “Adam brings a big presence to the ice. Not only he will be there for his teammates, but he can score 20 goals as he has good hands for a big guy.”
 
Kaminski continued, “He is great in front of the net on the power play. He also keeps the locker room loose with his sharp wit and sense of humor. Adam is a huge asset all the way around, and the fans are gonna love him!!”
