Amarillo, TX 9/4/08 – The Amarillo Gorillas have re-signed their second player of this off-season, inking Austin Sutter for the 2008-09 campaign Thursday.

Sutter has been a key offensive performer for the team since joining Amarillo during the 2006-07 season. In just 52 games during his first season with the Gorillas, Sutter scored 34 points. The next year (2007-08), the Red Deer, Alberta native increased his scoring production to over a point per game (65 points in 64 contests).
“We’re really glad to have Austin back,” said Gorillas Head Coach Tom Coolen regarding the two-year pro. “He did a really good job last year…he’s a guy that can show the new players around the area and help out with the leadership of the team. Austin is a fine young man and we are glad to have him aboard.”
Although he got off to a slow start in 2007-08—just five points in his first 13 games—Sutter saw his production dramatically increase after scoring his first goal of the season against Colorado on 11/23/07. He went on to record a career-high 23 multi-point games, and concluded the season by notching points in nine of the team’s final ten games.
“Bringing back another player that fans are familiar with will only increase the excitement about the approaching season,” said Gorillas Owner Randy Sanders. “Austin has been a fan favorite while playing for the Gorillas over the past two years, and we expect more of the same in 2008-09.”
When the Gorillas play their first regular-season game at New Mexico on Friday, October 17, Sutter will enter the game on a five-game point streak—a streak that dates back to the Gorillas’ March 15th game against the Arizona Sundogs. He will also likely look to continue his prowess against the Scorpions; Sutter has 18 points in his last nine tilts against Amarillo’s Southwest Division rival.
