Minard, a Brahmas fan favorite, returns to Texas for his ninth professional hockey season, his seventh in the CHL. Last season with the Brahmas, the strong veteran anchored the defensive unit and put up 23 points (2G, 21 A) in 42 games.
The Orangeville, ONT native was a key component on the penalty kill as well as the powerplay for the Brahmas. Last year Minard netted 12 powerplay assists in the regular season, the fourth most on the team.
Minard's experience became vital in the postseason as he played in all 14 games in the playoffs and recorded 3 assists. His defensive soundness helped aided the Brahmas as they found themselves in the Northern Conference Finals last season.
Prior to Minard's time with the Brahmas, his best season came in the 2005-06 campaign with the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs, where he posted a career-scoring best with 37 points (4 goals, 33 assists).
Minard has spent time in the British National League (BNL), East Coast Hockey League (ECHL), Rocky Mountain Junior Hockey League (RMJHL) and Ontario Hockey League (OHL). He also played five seasons with the University of New Brunswick in the Canadian Interuniversity Athletic Union (CIAU).
Minard, having previously played in the President's Cup Finals in 2003-04, believes the Brahmas will have what it takes to be successful in 2008-09.
"The organization has brought in some great prospects as well as some returners. I'm very excited about this season, and I'll admit that our expectations are very high, I won't settle for anything less than the Finals," Minard said.
Defenseman Craig Minard is the eleventh announced player signing for the 2008-09 season. Minard joins goaltender Brett Jaeger, defensemen Mike Vellinga and Chris Mann and forwards Jason Deitsch, Pete Rouleau, Tyler Skworchinski, Andrew Leach, Greg McConnell, Mark Carragher and Lance Galbraith.
