Mudbugs Move into Three-Way Tie for First Place
The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs (24-13-3) made it a three-way tie for first place in the Northeast Division with a 4-3 victory over the Laredo Bucks (22-13-4) on Monday night. The game was originally scheduled to be played on Friday night (Jan. 23) but needed to be rescheduled to Monday night due to a building conflict.
Mudbugs/Bucks Box Score
The win moved Bossier-Shreveport to 12-5-0 at home and dropped Laredo to 6-9-3 on the road. Their recent struggles away from home have them 1-7-3 in their last 11 road games.
The Bucks not only fell to 0-9 all-time at the CenturyTel Center in the regular season but also lost the CHL’s reigning MVP, Jeff Bes, who left the game in the second period after a hard hit into the boards.
Laredo looked to be off to a positive start taking a 2-0 lead behind goals from Ryan Salvis and Rick Kozak and controlling the shot board through the first 25 minutes of the game.
The Mudbugs would come clawing back scoring three straight goals before the end of the second period with Brett Smith, Chris Brassard and Travis Clayton all finding the back of the net versus Sebastien Centomo who was playing his first game since January 17th.
A strange play led to the ‘Bugs fourth goal and eventual game winner when a delayed penalty vacated the Bucks net and the puck through misfortune for Laredo somehow found its way across the goal line. Bossier-Shreveport's David Pszenyczny was given credit for the goal.
A last second goal by Bobby Russell made the loss a one-goal defeat for Laredo.
Carroll finished the game making 26 saves improving to 13-5-2.
Centomo made 29 saves but was saddled with the loss falling to 2-5-2 in his last nine decisions.
