MVP Resume – A Closer Look at Kevin Beech
In just his second professional season, Mississippi goaltender Kevin Beech could very well be the breakout star of the 2008-09 season. Heading into play this weekend, Beech leads the CHL with 33 wins and ranks fourth in goals against average (2.39) and tied for first with three shutouts.

His outstanding season has earned him a spot as one of the league’s five finalists for the CHL Most Valuable Player award. He is also on the ballot for the CHL’s Outstanding Goaltender award.
The former NHL draft pick (Tampa Bay/2005) went 14-7-1 last season splitting his rookie year with Laredo and Youngstown. He finished the season with four shutouts and already has emerged on the league’s all-time top 25 list with his seven career shutouts at the young age of 22.
His odds are short in winning the MVP award as only one goaltender has earned the league’s highest honor and that happened back in 1999 (Derek Puppa/Huntsville).
Beech has the RiverKings in position to win the Northeast Division and in contention for the Governors’ Cup (regular season champs). They have been near unbeatable as a team since early December.
