Sundogs Score Late in 5-3 Win
The Arizona Sundogs scored a pair of third period goals breaking a three all tie and keeping pace with the Corpus Christi IceRays for the fifth and final Southern Conference playoff spot. The ‘Dogs ended up with a 5-3 victory on Friday over the New Mexico Scorpions widening the gap between themselves and the Scorps to six points.
Kyle Hood scored the difference maker at the 17:46 mark of the third period giving Arizona a 4-3 lead and Tyler Liebel added an empty-net goal giving a little cushion.
Joel Gistedt made 14 straight saves after allowing a goal on the first shot he faced in relief duty of Marco Emond who left the game with an injury.
Liebel scored twice in the game and Peter Cartwright and Adam Perry each found the back of the net for the Sundogs.
The Sundogs outshot the Scorpions 36-25.
