Landmesser and Dumont Return to 'Kings

KAMINSKI GETS EXTENSION, LANDMESSER AND DUMONT RE-SIGN

(Southaven, MS) --- Three major components in the on-ice success of the Mississippi RiverKings during the 2008-09 Central Hockey League (CHL) season will be back for the upcoming campaign.

2009 CHL Off-Season Transactions

Director of Business Operations Ab Mattice has announced that Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin Kaminski has been given a three-year contract to continue in his current position.

In addition, veteran players Derek Landmesser and Louis Dumont have been signed to play again for the RiverKings during the 2009-2010 season.  Terms were not disclosed.

Kaminski was named the CHL’s Coach of the Year this past season after a 44-17-3 record that saw the RiverKings win the Northeast Division championship and come within three points of the overall league regular season title. Mississippi went on to oust Oklahoma City in the Northern Conference semi-finals and take Colorado to six games before being eliminated in the post-season.

His team fashioned an eleven-game winning streak which tied for the league’s longest winning streak of the season. During that stretch, the RiverKings ran off eight straight road victories, a league best, and went a CHL-best 17 straight games without losing in regulation time (win or shootout/overtime loss).

Landmesser, the RiverKings’ captain, holds a number of team records, including games played (498), assists (390), and penalty minutes (811). He is also second in career points scored by a RiverKings player with 470. This year, Landmesser finished his 13th professional hockey season leading all Mississippi defensemen with 51 points (6 goals, 45 assists), appearing in 63 contests. He was second in the CHL in power play assists with 24 and tied for second in the CHL in shorthanded assists with four. Derek added nine assists in the RiverKings’ post-season run.

Playing in all 64 games, Dumont scored 25 goals and had 65 points, which placed him first in points on the roster when only RiverKings’ games are considered. Dumont finished second in the CHL for shorthanded goals with six and five of his red-lighters were game-winners. In the playoffs, the 15th year professional and third-year RiverKings’ forward added three goals and ten points, with two markers on the power play and one being a game-winner.

Dumont was selected to the CHL All-Star Team, but did not take part due to prior commitments when the game was played in Colorado.

Mattice feels the signings are an important step in the continued future success of the RiverKings. “We feel we are taking great strides here to insure success, not only for the upcoming season, but for the future with the three-year contract for Killer and the addition of two important veterans such as Landmesser and Dumont. We are very happy with Killer’s productivity on the ice bringing up as a division championship and we look forward to the ultimate goal of a President’s Cup.”
