Specialty Jerseys Just Part of the Ride for Fans
One of the big thrills for fans during the regular season is to see their teams take the ice with a different look. Most CHL teams will wear specialty jerseys at least once during the regular season celebrating many different things from “Heritage Days” to “Valentine’s Day” to “St. Patrick’s Day”, among others.
A big component to these special games is auctioning off the jerseys following the games or online giving the fans a chance to own these once-in-a-franchise jerseys. Teams then turn around and donate money to local charities that in most cases are tied in to the particular theme.
During the 2008-09 season, CHL teams raised more than $500,000 during auctions for their special jerseys.
Leading the way was the expansion Rapid City Rush who wore six different specialty jerseys that raised $169,000.
