ICERAYS SIGN TWO MORE DEFENSEMEN TESSIER & LATER JOIN SQUAD
IceRays General Manager/Senior VP, Pat Dunn announced today the signing of Veteran Jason Tessier and rugged defenseman Steven Later. Tessier was acquired earlier during the summer from the Wichita Thunder in exchange for defenseman Jeremy Leroux. Later will start his 5th season as a pro where he compiled 29 goals, 66 assists and 828 pim in 204 gp.
"Jason has previously played for me. He is an all around solid defenseman with good size. He can run a power play and is great offensively minded. He brings a winning attitude to our hockey club” said Coach Hughes.
Steven Later is a 6’4, 200 pound native of Winnipeg, Manitoba and played last season with the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the IHL, where he was teammates with Chad Woollard who signed with the IceRays earlier this off-season.
“Steven is a very solid d-man, he will add some skill to our defensive corp” said Pat Dunn.
Prior to playing in Muskegon, Later played 3 seasons in the ECHL and also saw action with the Toronto Marlies of the AHL.
“Later is a strong, physical defenseman that can play against other team’s top lines. He is something we were missing last year. He also has an offensive side that he can make good decisions with the puck. He will be a great addition to our team” said Coach Hughes.
The defensemen will report to IceRays training camp set to start Monday, October 5th at the American Bank Center.
