ICERAYS BLOW PAST KILLER BEES 6-1
CORPUS CHRISTI HAS POINTS IN FIVE OF LAST SIX GAMES

A revamped power play and goal scoring flurries led the Corpus Christi IceRays to a 6-1 win over the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees on Friday night from the American Bank Center. The Rays scored two goals within four-plus minutes in all three periods, and scored a season-high, three power play goals en route to the victory. Corpus Christi now has points in five of their last six games, and inched within three points of the Bees for the final playoff spot in the Southern Conference. The IceRays record improved to 13-15-5 on the year. 
 
The IceRays burst onto the scoreboard with a pair of quick goals to open the first period. Jereme Tendler scored from the top of the crease off a centering feed from behind the net on an IceRays power play at 2:25 to make it 1-0 IceRays. Corpus Christi then added to their lead at 3:49 when Ryan Bennett redirected a Kyle Peto shot past Wylie Rogers. Kevin Nastiuk made several point-blank saves for the IceRays in the opening period as the IceRays took a 2-0 lead into the locker room, despite being outshot 11-7 in the frame.
 
In the second period, the Killer Bees made a play to get back into the game, but the IceRays widened the gap. Rio Grande Valley’s Joel Irving scored on a wrist shot from the left circle at 3:34 cutting the IceRays lead to 2-1. The IceRays, however, made it 3-1 on a power play goal from Chad Woollard from the right circle at 8:08. Shortly after that, Chris Richards deked out Rogers with a backhand goal at 9:51 making it 4-1 IceRays. Rogers was pulled following the goal for Andy Franck. The IceRays outshot the Killer Bees 17-9 in the period, and took their three-goal lead into the final period.
 
The IceRays tacked on two more in the third with a Justin Quenneville goal 1:26 into the period, and then Woollard scored his second of the night on a power play at 5:33.
 
Kevin Nastiuk (8-8-3) earned the win making 25 saves on 26 shots. Wylie Rogers (7-5-1) made 12 saves on 16 shots suffering the loss. Andy Franck made 23 saves on 25 shot, and did not figure into the decision. The IceRays power play went 3-7 and the Bees went 0-3. The IceRays outshot the Bees 41 -26 in the game.
