Laredo Drops Killer Bees in Afternoon Action


Bucks Bounce Back With 5-1 Win

HIDALGO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League beat the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 5-1 Saturday afternoon at State Farm Arena. The Bucks earned four out of six points on the weekend as they improve to 25-17-9 (59 points) on the season. For the moment the Bucks are tied for third place in the Southern Conference with Texas. The Brahmas host Odessa Saturday night and can drop the Bucks back to fourth with a win.
 
Pier Pelletier picked up his third straight win over the Killer Bees as he stopped 19 of 20 shots he faced helping the Bucks remain unbeaten in regulation against Rio this season (9-0-3). Laredo is 6-0 at State Farm Arena this year.
 
The Bucks jumped out in front of the Bees in the first period as they took a 3-1 lead to the locker room after 20 minutes. 
 
Darryl Smith gave Laredo a 1-0 lead when he scored an unassisted goal from the top of the slot just 3:21 into the contest. The tally was Smith’s team-leading 29th of the season and third in as many games.
 
The Bees (21-23-7) would tie the game at 1-1 at the 10:48 mark of the first when Aaron Lee tipped in a rebound on the power-play to pick up his 18th of the season.
 
Laredo would re-take the lead with 5:15 left in the first period when Igor Agarunov hammered a slap shot home from the top of the left circle to pick up his third goal of the season. It was Agarunov’s first tally since January 20th in Colorado.
 
Todd Griffith put the Bucks up 3-1 with 3:30 left in the first when he rifled in a slap shot from the top of the slot to score his sixth of the year. Griffith scored twice Thursday against the Bees.
 
The Bucks outshot the Bees 12-4 in the first.
 
Laredo added two more goals in the second period to take a 5-1 edge after 40 minutes of play.
 
Jarred Mohr scored a power-play goal from the point just 5:22 into the second period. Mohr now has nine goals on the season tripling his previous career high of three.
 
Jay Holladay jammed in a rebound with just 21 seconds left in the second to put Laredo up 5-1. Both of Holladay’s goals this season have come in Rio.
 
The Bucks outshot the Bee 29-20 with Andy Franck suffering the loss in net for Rio stopping 24 of 29 attempts. Franck falls to 3-5-3 against Laredo this season.
