Former CHL Coach Looking to Win AHL's Calder Cup
The American Hockey League’s Hershey Bears will look for their third Calder Cup in the last five years after recently winning the Richard F. Canning Trophy as the AHL’s Eastern Conference champions for 2009-10. The Bears took home the AHL Championship in 2006 and 2009 and have won 10 in their franchise’s history.
Former CHL coach Mark French led the Bears to one of the greatest regular seasons ever in the history of the AHL, setting a league record with 60 wins and posting 123 points (60-17-0-3), the second highest point total in the 74-year history of the AHL. After serving as the Bear’s assistant coach during their 2009 Calder Cup season, French took over as the team’s coach prior to the start of this season.
In his two plus seasons in the CHL with the Wichita Thunder, French guided the Thunder to a 70-59-16 mark between 2005-07.
Hershey will face the winner of the Hamilton Bulldogs/Texas Stars series which has the ‘Dogs leading four games to one with Game 6 set for Monday night in Hamilton.
