BRAHMAS' BLUELINE GREATER WITH ADDITION OF LATER
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (September 13)- The Texas Brahmas of the Central Hockey League (CHL) solidified their blueline Monday afternoon with the signing of defenseman Steven Later for the 2010-11 season.
Later had his most productive season offensively with the Corpus Christi IceRays last year, with 25 points in 33 games. The 6-foot-4, 200 pound bruiser concluded the regular season with a +11 rating. In the postseason, Later was second in scoring with the 'Rays registering two points (1 G, 1 A) in two games before bowing out to the Brahmas.
The menacing physical presence accumulated 950 penalty minutes in 237 professional games and recorded seven fighting majors in just 33 games played last year. In five professional seasons, the Winnipeg, MAN native has 120 points (41 G, 79 A).
Prior to going pro, Later notched 76 points in juniors (18 G, 58 A) following a season at Ferris State University (NCAA).
Brahmas head coach Dan Wildfong believes Later will mesh well into Texas' tough system.
"Steven is a great competitor who has proven to be a top end defensive competitor as well as an offensive threat. With his skills, we have great expectations in his ability to win battles night after night for the Brahmas," said Wildfong.
Later is the thirteenth announced signing by the Brahmas as he joins goaltenders Scott Campbell and Wayne Savage; defensemen Jim Burichin, Kevin Kraus, Nathan Saunders and Nick Toneys; and forwards Jason Deitsch, Greg Hogeboom, Ryan McLeod, Jeff Hazelwood, Matt Pierce and A.J. Gale.
