Serving notice might best describe what the visiting Mississippi RiverKings did to the Tulsa Oilers on Thursday night blowing out the third seed in the Berry Conference by a final score of 7-2. The RiverKings now steal home ice advantage in the best-of-5 series.
Seven different goal scorers found the back of the net in the balanced ‘Kings attack that had 11 different skaters crack the score sheet.
Veteran Louis Dumont led the way scoring a goal with two assists and a +4 plus/minus rating with his score giving the RiverKings the lead for good at the 13:35 mark of the first period breaking a one-all tie.
Rookie goaltender Alexander Pechurskiy made 27 saves in the game earning his first professional playoff win.
For Tulsa, Ian Keserich made 31 saves taking the loss.
Leading 4-2 after the second period, the Oilers used a minute and a half stretch of the third frame to blow the game wide-open. Rookie Evgeny Timkin scored his first pro goal at the 8:23 mark followed quickly thereafter by Matt Boyd’s first pro goal came at the 9:54 mark making the score 6-2.
If it wasn’t for special teams, the Oilers would have been shutout as Michel Beausoleil, Derek Eastman and Bates Battaglia all scored man advantage goals for Tulsa who finished the night 3 for 10 on the power play.
