NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (March 31)-Game One of the Opening Round for the Brahmas is in the books, as the Brahmas took a 5-4 victory from the Odessa Jackalopes Thursday evening.
Texas’ captain Jason Deitsch set the mode for his team when just :18 seconds into the Brahmas first powerplay of the postseason, his one timer from the top of the point flew past goaltender Mike Mole for the 1-0 lead. Wayne Savage made his mark early stopping a Kenny Corupe penalty shot attempt to keep the ‘Jacks at bay.
Odessa was able to get on the boards with a powerplay goal of their own when Matt Gens found daylight to tie the game. The tie wouldn’t last for long when Ryan Bennett took the man advantage to another level, burying the puck at the 11:33 mark in the second for Texas. The special teams battle continued when Mike Ramsay led the Jacks for their second powerplay goal of the evening to even the field. Proven to be a standout in the postseason, Deitsch pounded his second goal of the series from the crease to regain the Texas lead headed into the intermission.
Before the midway mark in the final period, the light lit four times, twice for each team. Darryl McArthur’s initial shot from the blueline beat Mole for the 4-2 Texas lead. The Jacks came back within one when a puck shot by Sebastien Thinel to Savage’s blocker side squeaked by at the 4:02 mark. Dylan Stanley sent Brahmas ‘mini bulls’ flying as well as Mole’s water bottle when he shelved his goal for Texas’ fifth of game. Within :23 seconds, Jack forward Mark Ehl came flying into the zone and rifled his shot to the back of the net for a 5-4 game. The Jacks would finish the game on the powerplay, and despite last minute heroics and pulling Mole for the extra attacker, the Brahmas prevailed for the victory.
