It was sacrifice, in part, that helped the Rapid City Rush keep their hopes of defending the Ray Miron President’s Cup alive.
Goaltender Tim Boron said after Sunday’s Game 5 win over Fort Wayne that he’d throw whatever part of his body he needed to keep the puck out of the net. Winger Derek LeBlanc said in practice this week that those extra human barriers become near necessities in the latter stages of the postseason.
“This time of year, guys will sacrifice their body, put their body in the shooting lanes,” he said. “You need to make little sacrifices for the team and do whatever it takes, especially to kill penalties out.”
The overall message now? To a man, the Rush roster knows the level of sacrifice will need to be escalated several times over in order for the reigning Central Hockey League champs to avoid becoming sacrificial lambsof the Colorado Eagles in the Turner Conference finals.
