Three months ago John DeCaro "didn't want to go to the rink."
The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs goaltender had entered the 2010-11 Central Hockey League season as a clear-cut No. 1, but before long, head coach Scott Muscutt was spanning the globe in an effort to shore up his team's play between the pipes.
DeCaro survived goaltender roulette, and in the end, fought through his self-made adversity to earn a major opportunity at redemption.
He wasn't even the starter for Bossier-Shreveport's initial postseason game, but Friday, DeCaro will lead the teal and purple into the Presidents' Cup Finals. The journey ends one year after a pair of devastating goaltending injuries helped stop the Mudbugs' quest for a championship one step short.
"This is why I came back," DeCaro said. "Things ended on a bad note for me personally."
