LOVELAND — An early lead Wednesday night was not only a sigh of relief for the Colorado Eagles, but also for the fans.
An Eagles’ loss in the quest for the Presidents’ Cup would effectively end the season, but netting three goals in the first period and cruising to an eventual 8-1 victory over the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs, gave the more than 5,000 fans at the Budweiser Events Center something to scream about.
And scream they did.
From the first faceoff, the decibel level was enough to shake the banners from the rafters and it only got louder as the Eagles kept finding the back of the net. It got even louder when the fights broke out, and the roof nearly blew off the arena when Eagles’ player Adam Chorneyko scored a hat trick late in the third period.
Once the final buzzer sounded, it was nearly impossible for any of the fans to hear what their neighbors were saying, but that didn’t really matter as the slew of high-fives and waving hats did all the talking.
