The Evansville IceMen announced on Monday that they have signed forward Brad Smulders for the 2011-12 season.
Smulders, 27, played in Holland each of the last seven seasons and will playing his first professional season in North America. In Europe, the 5-11, 180-pound forward scored 316 points (136-180=316) in 255 games.
His best season came with the Amsterdam Tigers where he tallied 55 points (25-30=55) in 36 games during the 2007-08 season.
“Brad is coming to us after an outstanding career at the pro level in Europe at Holland,” said Rich Kromm, Evansville Head Coach and General Manager. “There, he gained the reputation for producing good, solid numbers. His consistency in this area has been remarkable. We are looking for him to provide the same type of solid offense for us. His record of good offense has been demonstrated not only at the pro level but also in his junior ‘A’ years in the OPJHL.”
