Sundogs Add Perrin and Desmet to Fold
Two Alberta Natives Head West for the 2011-12 Season
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. – The Arizona Sundogs announced today that defenseman Jesse Perrin and forward Keenen Desmet have joined the club for the upcoming 2011-12 Central Hockey League season.
Crossfield, Alberta native, Perrin (PAIR-in), comes to Arizona after playing last year for Mount Royal University of the Canadian College Athletic Association (CCAA) where he registered three goals and seven assists in 10 games. Prior to that, the 24-year-old played two seasons for the CHL’s Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees appearing in 89 total games and tallying 13 points (1 goal, 12 assists) from 2008 to 2010. Before turning pro, the 6-foot-1, 200-pound Perrin spent three seasons in the Alberta Junior Hockey League with the Okotoks Oilers.
“Jesse is a defensive-minded player with experience in the CHL,” said Head Coach Marco Pietroniro. “He brings playoff experience from his time in Rio Grande Valley, and we’ll need his ability to make things difficult for the opposing team’s offense.”
Desmet, 23, joins the Sundogs after a two-year stint of college hockey with the University of Alabama-Huntsville, scoring 32 points in 64 total games – 12 goals and 20 assists. The 5-foot-11, 170 pound Desmet (deh-SMET) hails from Strathmore, Alberta and played three seasons of junior hockey in the British Columbia Hockey League.
“Keenen is a young rookie who will be starting his career with us,” added Pietroniro. “He comes from a family of hockey players. He’s here to develop his game with us and we’re going to count on his offensive talent.”
Desmet’s two brothers, Braden and Taggart, also play professional hockey. Taggart spent last season over in Italy while Braden was a member of the CHL’s Colorado Eagles and Evansville Icemen last year.
Perrin and Desmet raise the total offseason signings for the Sundogs to 16.
