It was an opening night to remember for ex-CHLer Andrew Desjardins who scored a pair of goals for the San Jose Sharks in his team’s 6-3 victory on home ice in the first game of the 2011-12 season for both San Jose and Phoenix.
Desjardins doubled his career NHL goal output in the game scoring his first goal, unassisted, at the 8:33 mark of the second period giving San Jose a 4-0 lead. The score for the Lively, Ontario native would prove to be the game winning goal.
His second of the night came with just over a minute remaining in the period making the score 6-1. He finished the game with five shots on net and was a +2.
The 6-0, 197-pound forward made the Sharks out of training camp and entered the season with 17 career NHL games under his belt, all last season with the Sharks. In those games, Desjardins scored one goal and had two assists. He also dressed in three Stanley Cup playoff games scoring one goal.
During the 2007-08 season, Desjardins was a member of the CHL All-Rookie team after scoring 22 goals with 37 assists in 64 games with the Laredo Bucks.
