Prescott Valley, AZ Joins CHL for 06-07

The Central Hockey League has announced its second new 2006-2007 expansion franchise of the week, officially welcoming the town of Prescott Valley, Arizona at Tuesday’s groundbreaking ceremony for the Prescott Valley Convention and Events Center. The new facility will open in the Fall of 2006, with ownership awarded to Prescott Valley Hockey Club, LLC, who will serve as the facility’s primary tenant. The venue is being developed by Global Entertainment Corporation (OTCBB: GECO), the CHL’s parent company, along with the Fain Signature Group, with fellow subsidiary International Coliseums Company overseeing design and construction.

“We are excited to welcome both Prescott Valley and the ownership group to the Central Hockey League,” said CHL President Brad Treliving. “The combination of outstanding ownership, experienced professional sports management and a brand new facility in a rapidly growing region will provide our latest franchise with the foundation to achieve a very high level of success.”

Former National Hockey League player Eric Lacroix, team co-owner and Governor, spoke at the groundbreaking ceremony and introduced several additional members of the franchise. Shawn Fowler, a business executive with Morgan Stanley joins Lacroix in an ownership role, while Hayne Ellis, who spent the last eight years with the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche, will serve as Club President. Also on hand were Marco Pietroniro (Head Coach), and Brent Thiessen (Senior Vice President, Sales & Partnerships). The team also launched details of their Name the Team contest, underway on their website at www.pvhockey.com.

“We are thrilled to be able to bring the exciting brand of hockey found in the Central Hockey League to the region,” said Lacroix. “Prescott Valley and Northern Arizona represent one of the most dynamic areas in the country, and we are looking forward to providing quality entertainment while becoming good neighbors in the community. We have done a tremendous amount of research, both into the CHL and the Prescott Valley area, and we couldn’t find a better league or location to launch a team.”

The Central Hockey League opens its 14th season of play October 21st having led all North American “AA” leagues in average attendance for four consecutive seasons. In 13 previous years of operation, the CHL has welcomed 32,381,099 fans through 7,542 contests, averaging over 4,293 per game. In the 2004-2005 season, the CHL averaged 4,487 per contest.
