PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ – The Texas Brahmas scored a pair of second period goals to open up a 4-1 lead on the Arizona Sundogs en route to a 5-1 win on Saturday night at Tim’s Toyota Center. The contest closes out the first half of the 2011-12 Central Hockey League season for both teams.
Chad Woollard made it a 3-1 lead for the Brahmas burying a loose puck at the right side of the goal crease 3:43 into period two. Erik Spady then extended the Texas lead off a one-timer in the right circle for his third of the season.
Phil Fox added a power play goal for the Brahmas midway through period three for the 5-1 final. Arizona and Texas finish their regular season series splitting their six matchups. Tonight’s game was the only one not decided by a goal.
Tyler Butler opened up the scoring with a power play goal for Arizona early in the opening period. Dan Nicholls and Andrew Lackner responded for the Brahmas. Lackner’s tally came with an extra attacker on the ice after a delayed penalty call against Arizona.
Mike Spillane took the loss stopping 14 of 18 shots. He was relieved midway through the second period by Scott Reid, who made 11 saves. Mark Guggenberger took the win for Texas with a 40-save performance.
Arizona finished 1-for-6 on the power play. Texas went 1-for-9.
