Box Score
The Allen Americans (22-9-7) won their third straight game while handing the Arizona Sundogs (12-20-7) their fourth straight defeat by a 2-0 count on Tuesday night at the Allen Event Center.
The win moves the Americans into first place in the Berry Conference with 51 points, one more than Wichita. It also marked the fourth straight win for Allen in the season series against the Sundogs (ALN leads 4-1).
Former Sundogs forward Jeff Martens started the scoring in the game with the Americans first shorthanded goal of the season at the 11:51 mark of the first period. It was Martens fourth goal in nine games with Allen. The Americans became the last CHL team to score a SHG this season.
Another newcomer for Allen would pad the lead in the third period when Mark Nebus scored his second goal in his second game with the Americans. The goal came on a nice rush that saw Nick Layton drop a pass back to Nebus for the shot from the right circle that skipped past Arizona goalie Scott Reid.
Despite taking the loss, Reid was sharp keeping his team in the game making 33 saves in the game, some in dramatic fashion. The loss moves Reid’s record to 10-11-2 on the season.
Rejean Beauchemin won his fourth straight start improving to 8-3-4 on the season earning his first shutout of the season and sixth of his pro career. He finished with 24 saves.
