Season Series: The Rapid City Rush will travel into Wichita to face off against the Thunder for the eighth and final time this season. So far this series has been close with Rapid City winning three games, and Wichita winning four (two of Wichita’s wins came in the shootout). Tonight the Rush see the opportunity to even the scores before the playoffs. These two teams just recently played each in other in back-to-back games Mar. 9 and 10 with each team winning one game.
Last 10: Rapid City 6-3-1; Wichita 7-3-0
Remaining Schedule: Rapid City will play in tonight’s game in Wichita before traveling back home for two sets of back-to-back series, one against Evansville and one against Bloomington. The Rush will wrap up their season with another back-to-back series against the Sundogs in Arizona. On the other side of the ice we have Wichita who sees a pretty tough schedule as six of their eight remaining games (including tonight) are against playoff contending teams. The Thunder still see games against Rapid City, Quad City, Texas, Evansville, and Allen twice.
The Low Down: Tonight will be a huge game for both teams, but especially the Rapid City Rush who are desperate to keep their playoff spot. They sit in a tie for third place with the Missouri Mavericks with 72 points. Rapid City only has two points on the fifth place Mallards and will need a huge win tonight as both Missouri and Quad City are not active. Wichita leads the entire league with their record and sit in first place in the Berry Conference with 82 points, seven more that the second place Americans. They already have a playoff spot clinched and are now fighting for the Governor’s Cup (regular season champions).
Players to Watch: One of the stronger players that has shown his presence in this series is Rapid City’s Les Reaney. He has only played in six of the seven games this series but leads all players on both teams with his 11 points (3g, 8a). He has a team best +4 against Wichita and will look to make an impact again tonight. The player to watch sporting a Wichita jersey should be Brett Hemingway who has notched two game winning goals for the Thunder. He has played in only six games as well and has put up 6 points (4g, 2a). It will be a great tilt tonight when these hungry teams face off for two important points.
