The normally offensively conservative Odessa Jackalopes are scoring goals in bunches lately, and started their New Year celebration early on Saturday, scoring nine goals in a wild 9-6 win in Corpus Christi. Other CHL action New Year's evening saw Laredo, Rio Grande Valley, Lubbock, Colorado, Tulsa and Oklahoma City all close out 2005 with victories.
Odessa 9 @ Corpus Christi 6
A six goal first period set the tone for this contest, with each club scoring three times in the opening 20 minutes of action. The middle frame was dominated by Odessa, outscoring the Rayz 4-1 before trading two more goals each in the final period. John Kozoriz and Sebastien Thinel each had two goals and two assists, and Thinel has moved into a tie for third place in the CHL scoring race with 45 points.
Austin 2 @ Laredo 5
The Bucks opened up a 3-0 lead and never looked back en route to their 19th win of the season. Igor Agarunov paced the attack with a goal and two assists, while James Hiebert, Ladislav Kouba, Jeff Bes, Nick Warriner and Brett Arcand-Kootenay each recorded two points. Outshot 42-21, Jeff Neufeld was the lone bright spot for the Ice Bats, scoring his third and fourth goals of the season.
Fort Worth 2 @ Rio Grande Valley 5
The Killer Bees won their eight game in nine tries, never trailing and outshooting Fort Worth 55-38, setting a new club record for most shots in a single game. Rio Grande Valley recorded four power play goals in the win, with Trevor Weisgerber (goal, two assists) and Jeff Mushaluk (goal, assist) leading the way. Jimmy Sokol and Ben Gustavson replied for the Brahmas.
Bossier-Shreveport 1 @ Lubbock 5
The Mudbugs opened the scoring early on Milan Vodrazkas second of the season, but the Cotton Kings rattled off five consecutive to win and even their season record at 14-14-1. Emery Olauson scored the game winner on the power play, and three other Lubbock players also capitalized with the man advantage.
Colorado 6 @ Amarillo 3
Amarillos six game home winning streak is history after being doubled up by the Eagles. Ryan Tobler had a pair of goals for Colorado, while Derek Hahn maintained his lead atop the CHL scoring race with a pair of goals.
Tulsa 3 @ Memphis 1
Mario Jolys power play goal was the difference in this contest, moving the Oilers a game over .500 entering 2006. Korey Diehl and Jaroslav Cesky also scored for Tulsa, while Ryan Watson had the RiverKings only marker.
Wichita 4 @ Oklahoma City 5 (SO)
The Blazers win their seventh game in nine tries, with Kahlil Thomas potting the shootout game winner. Mike Beausoleil added a goal and an assist for Oklahoma City, with Joe Blaznek leading the Thunder with a goal and two assists. The Northern Conference All-Star starter remains in second place in the CHL scoring race with 47 points.
