Mallards Team with Dwyer & Michaels, 97X to Offer Chance to Play for Flock
Open Tryout Sunday for Chance to Play for Mallards in Preseason
 
MOLINE, Ill. (October 3, 2011) – The Quad City Mallards of the “AA” Central Hockey League today announced the Mallards have teamed with Dwyer & Michaels and 97X to offer those who think they are good enough, tough enough and skilled enough the chance to try out to play for the team in a preseason game. 
 
Mallards coach and general manager David Bell will hold a special open tryout next Sunday, October 9 from noon to 1:00 p.m. at the i wireless Center for Dwyer & Michaels listeners, Mallards fans and hockey players from throughout the Quad Cities- male or female- who think they have what it takes to play for the Flock.  Along with Bell, current Mallards will also be on the ice Sunday to help test the mettle and skills of those trying out.  The session will include evaluation drills, conditioning and a scrimmage. 
 
The top three tryout camp performers will first be selected, then a final winner will be chosen from among that trio and given the opportunity to don the Mallard jersey and play in the Flock’s preseason game against the Evansville IceMen on Saturday, October 15 at 4:00 p.m. at the i wireless Center.  Tickets to watch the homegrown contest winner and the rest of the Flock in action in that preseason tilt are available at (309) 277-1364 or myqcmallards.com.
 
“This is a great opportunity- especially for those fans who like to perhaps on occasion scream and yell and criticize- to come and show me how it is done,” said Bell.  “The tryout will be a unique chance to not only gain an appreciation of how big, strong and fast these players actually are by being on the same ice as them but also for our winner to have the once-in-a-lifetime experience of playing for the Mallards.”
 
Those who wish to try out can register by emailing their name, phone number, email address and age to info@myqcmallards.com or by calling the Mallards at (309) 277-1364.  The deadline for registration is 5:00 p.m. on Friday.  Contestants must check in at the i wireless Center between 10:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.  Players trying out must be 21 years of age or older and will need to provide their own equipment.
