Maybe just as important as Tuesday's Komets' win was the little extra time it gives injured center Brett Smith to rest. While his teammates were preparing to play Game 6, Smith was meeting with team doctors in Fort Wayne to see what could be done with his injured neck.

Smith was hit from behind in Game 1 and had to remove himself from Game 5 because of the injury. He was told after Sunday's game he would not make the trip to Rapid City.

``They've been doing everything they can to help me,'' Smith said. ``You don't want to put me out there if I'm only going to be able to play a couple of shifts. I'm going to do everything possible to be ready. The next 48 hours are very critical, and hopefully they are for the best.''
